Minimally Invasive Varicose Vein Treatment

Do you experience discomfort, swelling, and varicose veins? You may be suffering from superficial venous reflux disease. Approximately 25 million people in the US suffer from this condition. Now, patients can be treated with the Closure® procedure.

The VNUS Closure® procedure

The Closure procedure, an alternative treatment option to traditional vein stripping surgery, brings state-of-the-art technology to an age-old disease. VNUS® RF (radiofrequency) Ablation system (also called the Closure® procedure) is a minimally invasive varicose vein treatment procedure that uses radiofrequency energy (electricity) to heat, collapse and seal off the targeted blood vessels. The treatment is a great alternative to vein stripping, a procedure that requires surgical incisions to directly remove veins. Patients who undergo vein stripping often have lengthy recoveries.

With VNUS® RF ablation, the recovery is minimal, and you can return to your activities right away Using the Closure system, physicians close the diseased veins by inserting a small catheter into a vein and heating the vein wall using temperature-controlled RF energy. Heating the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.

Many patients can resume normal activities within 1-2 days after the VNUS procedure. For a few weeks following treatment, you should begin a regular walking regimen and refrain from strenuous activity.
