If you’ve wished your lips were plumper and smoother, maybe you’ve considered a lip augmentation. Lip fillers are the most popular way to increase lip size. They’re an effective procedure that involves injecting one of several types of fillers into the lips.
We love lip augmentation procedures at Cosmetic Specialists and our patients do to! Most patients have questions prior to the procedure. Today, we will breakdown the most commonly asked question about lip fillers.
What are some of the fillers you use?
We carry the Restylane line of fillers, Juvederm, and the newest filler on the market, Versa. The advantage for our patients to carrying many products is that we can specifically tailor the treatment to your needs and the look you are going for. Everything from a beautiful subtle natural looking lip to a more full voluminous “pout”.
How long will it last?
On average, fillers injected in the lips will last about 6-12 months. The product begins to last a bit longer when you do them regularly. We have several patients that only have to come in once a year.
Does it hurt?
We take every precaution to ensure patient comfort with every procedure. A topical numbing agent is applied prior to injection. There is also a numbing ingredient (lidocaine) in the product itself, so as the product is injected, the lidocaine also goes in. Even patients with a generally low pain tolerance tend to do very well with this procedure. Some patients even opt out of the topical numbing cream prior. Overall, this is a very tolerable procedure.
What are the risks?
There is always a risk of bruising and/or swelling with any injectable. Due to the vascular nature of the lips, a bit of swelling can be expected for up to one full week following injection. You can minimize your risk of bruising by avoiding ibuprofen and aspirin for 72 hours prior to injection. We also carry a topical arnica cream for $22.50 that can help with bruising following the procedure.
Is there any downtime?
The beauty of non-surgical cosmetic procedures is that you don’t need to take time away from your usual routine. Bruising and swelling are possible, however, you can return to your normal routine immediately after the procedure.
